Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups granulated sugar Foundation for the candy base
  • 1 cup water Helps dissolve the sugar for a smooth texture
  • 1 cup light corn syrup Prevents crystallization, ensuring a clear candy

  • confectioners’ sugar For dusting to prevent sticking

Instructions

  • Mix sugar, water, and corn syrup in a heavy saucepan.
  • Warm over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
  • Stop stirring and let the mixture boil until a candy thermometer reads 300°F.
  • Remove from heat and add peppermint extract and red food coloring (if desired).
  • Pour onto a greased sheet and let it cool slightly.
  • Score or cut into shapes before fully hardened.
  • Dust with confectioners’ sugar to prevent sticking.
  • Let the candy cool completely before serving or storing.

Notes

You can substitute honey or glucose syrup for corn syrup for a mild floral sweetness. Mint extract can be used instead of peppermint extract for a gentler mint taste.
